Lighting a Kiln

Apparently I am retarded. How do you go about lighting the kiln or cauldron when there is no light button?

make a firebrand and right click it onto the kiln

you're doing something wrong then, because that's how it gets lit. Same as a fire.

Nope, sometimes the firebrands burn out before the kiln gets lit even if you do everything perfectly. I've burned through about 20 brands by now, sometimes it lights fine sometimes it's hell XD It seems firebrands have either a variable burn time when produced, or server lag is really mucking with it. When the server was lagging I failed 4 brands in a row.

The timer on them is a little painfully short >.>
