Strength needed to mine coal?

It's probably not that simple given the generated hardness maps, but does anyone know the STR required to mine coal, or if you've mined it what STR you were when you first did?

I'm planning on spending part of tonight trying to find some, but I'm currently only 20 STR.

Coal is one of the easiest to mine and most common apart from rocks.

Just experimenting in a random cave with only 12 strength and found coal on 2 separate walls.

try to kill a bear with a friends ,make bear cape ,bear tooth talisman and go mining...you will get +10-15 str

I found a deposit of coal and I can mine it I only have 13 strength and a quality 10 stone axe the difficulty is random for all types of ore

Thanks, I know Jorb said that rocks/ores have their own toughness independent of the hardness maps. Hopefully it's easy enough to find.

The different rocks have different hardness, so, yes, at least to some extent. There is, however, also a hardness field, so local hardness will vary over the map.
