Should I mine a different cave for ore?

Postby Kinglazy » Tue Sep 08, 2015 10:52 pm

I've settled next to a fairly large cave. I've been trying to mine it for ore for a while now but I get nothing but stones (mostly the same 2 types). Do caves only have certain types of mine-able material or will I start finding ores as my STR increase? Just wondering whether should I make the effort to find and secure another cave.

I have 25 STR and lvl 10 stone axe if that matters.

You should be able to find ore if its there, and soft enough.
Keep looking, check every 4-5 tiles, if its a large cave your likely to find some, at least.

Thanks for quick replay, I'll keep at it I guess.
Just to clarify, around every 4-5 I can potentially find a random ore/stone? Does requiring high STR determines which material could it be? At 25 str and most of the cave keep giving me "too hard to mine" in some form or another.

I think every 10 tiles or so will be more worth your energy.

Just to note: all caves are on L1 of the underground world, so they all connect, or at least can all be connected.

Materials are determined at world generation. What is there can't be changed other than with dev powers. (I'm assuming a cave in can't change the rock that is there, but reports are cave ins can destroy tiles that haven't been mined yet.)

Going every few tiles means you may find something different there. Could be another decorative stone, could be something valuable (ore, coal).

Would also suggest getting rustroot extract and prospecting on top of your cave.
Cut out your minimap in both the cave and outside and put them in top of each other and mine in the direction of ore if prospecting turns up something.

We found iron that way, though it took a bit of mining and one support due to frequent cave ins.
W3 to W6 - Blockland. Special mentions: New Avalon, Tarn of Hotdog, Red October.
W7 - Elvenia, til we all got lazy.
W8 - Cult of R'lyeh, til the deeps called us back.
W9 - Tartarus, til death/wizards came for the land itself.
W10 - ???, ruined and forgotten.

At what Exploration X Perception did you find rustroot?
