How does one come across gauze? Before I could give clover to a Moufflon and steal some fur - Now it seems I can't.

You can still do that. Just did it, works the same.... just take the wool to a loom and make some gauze.

Closer you are when you start, faster they take it (they move randomly, with slight preference towards you. Closer you are less RNG you gotta deal with)

If you've given a clover to them before or failed to give them one, you cannot give them another.

I had sewing already, assumed if I found wool I could build a loom but nope.

This is how you heal Fell Slash:

You need Gauze. Which is made from wool, gotten from Sheep/Mouflon.
Get your Perc*exp so you can see clover (if you Exp is 10 and the perc is in the high teens you should start seeing them.
Clover a mouflon and use a sharp tool to cut it off.

You need a loom to make Gauze. 1 Wool makes one Gauze, so a Clover equals one gauze.
You need Basic Mechanics to make a Loom, and you need Wheelwrighting to make Basic Mechanincs. (this costs 3500 LP for both skills).
