ore smelting and wrought iron

Postby dunehammer » Sun Sep 13, 2015 12:55 am

i v tried more than 10 load of smelting in the past 2 days. i found it is very difficult to smelt bars now, sometime i got some 0 bar output in a full load.
and the biggest problem is the wrought is very hard to make. for example, put 9 bars in finery forge--->got 4 bloom---> turn 1 bloom into wrought, so roughly 9 cast iron got 1 wrought!
Now we dont have personal belief to increase mining output, what can we do now to increase it? Does investing points in smithing help?

Heavy earth and Iron Ochre are bad ore types. There are harder metal types out there that provide more bars/smelt.

Investing in strength to dig deeper/harder ores would be the investment you're talking about.

iron ochre is a good ore ,i'm still smelting and getting iron bars ,around 1-5 so it's ok
to dig deeper need about 90+ str .lol
+ the most fucking thing is a mine support where you need 1 bar of metal so iron ochre is a good thing for firts time to collect bars ,for making brick wall ,and making much more mine suppports to dig deeper .

From what I have seen.

Heavy Earth is trash ore. It's about a 1-2% chance per ore of getting an iron bar (1 bar per 2 smelter fulls on average).
Iron Ochre is a bit better but not great. It's around a 4-8% chance of getting an iron bar (1-2 bars per full smelter).
Chalcopyrite is great ore. It's at least a 10% chance of getting either a copper or iron bar.

Other ores I know about but don't know the rates of yet due to not finding lots of it to test.

Cassiterite = Tin Ore
Malachite = Copper Ore
Black Ore = Iron Ore
Bloodstone = Iron Ore
Galena = Silver Ore
Horn Silver = Silver Ore
Schrifterz = Gold Ore

I agree. We can't support a mine with a wooden goddamn block before we mine a goddamn metal and smelt it. I honestly can't see the reason for this drawback, it would be so much easier if we could support our mines to actually find metal, without all the boulders falling on our heads.

You only need soft metal for mine supports, so it's not too hard to get.

4th day of looking, nothing but coal and rocks so far. Mining mind you not on the surface. Regardless, if a palisade can be build without metal I fail to see how a palisade supporting a ceiling cant.

I saw jorb mention pewter elsewhere on the forums (Bugs, discussing a "tin" cauldron), so this will likely be the primary source of lead, and any silver will just be bonus.

We got 3 nuggets from a boulder (50 ore exactly). If that's a "bonus", it's a pretty nice bonus.

If only we could actually use it for anything.
