Pursue button - what does it do?

I thought it allows me to switch focus between targets?

I tried raiding bee nest, was attacked by 2 swarms of bees. One slower and one faster. I run away from the slower ones and try to attack the faster ones which are all the time on me. My character keeps trying to attack the slower ones way behind me. I press pursue button under the smaller bee icon and attack again. Again my character tries to attack the bees away from me. I try the other pursue button. Same. I keep trying several more times with same effect, until my character is KOed by bees

Just use manual Attack on the target you Wish.
