Crazy developers

There's a reason why the higher tier stuff exists, that's one of them presumably. By giving you two alchemical options, you can perfect potion every single raw material in the game if you wanted to.

tbh, it's very little effort to make a perfect potion if you've already catalogued all the materials. Which you'll be doing for other reasons. It's pointless though because 10 chills/rash is such a meaningless penalty. Most herbal swills will drop to that when researcged properly. It's not worth using the quicksilver for merc, and there's a very restricted number of mushrooms for conc.

So yeah, it's not done by anyone playing max output min input on the system at least.

In my opinion whole alchemy system is overcomplicated.

There should be other way to find out alchemical properties different than mixing everything and making spreadsheets...

I've wanted to try alchemy, I've built table, made required tools etc.

I've spend 5 hours mixing ingredients and I gave up.

It's actually pretty similar to how alchemy works in the Elder Scrolls, just with a penalty for unmatched effects. Like many things in H&H it strives for realism and making you work for what you want. Just gotta experiment and log results. I've actually been putting my findings on the wiki over the last few days. Hopefully I can help some people out.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a system for nerds who like this kind of stuff. Not everyone has to enjoy every activity in haven. Part of the benefit from being an ancient game that has so many moving parts, everyone can find their niche.

Alchemy is like real science btw, boring as hell and logging data for hours to maybe find something interesting if you're lucky.
