How do I raise my intelligence?

Postby CelestialVulpine » Tue Apr 22, 2025 11:08 pm

Ate some Blueberries & Perch so I could raise my Intelligence to 15, so I could study this Strange Root I found, but my Intelligence is still at 10?
The bar below my Base Attributes says "(6.7 intel)=6.7 of 10.2". I'm not sure what this means, but shouldnt that give me 16 intelligence? So why isnt the Intelligence stat on my Base Attributes screen increasing, or my Attention moving up from 10?

I have a ton of perch so I can try again later when I'm not as full, but I'm really stumped as to why my Int didnt increase.

(I play on Legacy if that helps at all, I assume it would work sorta the same as Hafen.)

I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness.

Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

You need to eat until the FEP bar fills up. Then the game will randomly pick a stat boost depending on your FEPs (so 100% of +1 int is a guaranteed int boost, and 70% +1 con and 30% +1 int gives you the following chances for the following stats).

Ohhh I see now. Legacy doesn't have that helpful hover text, so I was sorta in the dark about how it worked haha.
Very helpful, thank you!

  • New characters now start at full (10000%) energy.
  • If energy is below Healing (8000%) when eating, the only effect of eating is to gain energy. FEPs, hunger, satiations &c are only affected when eating while Healing.
  • The "hard-labor cap" (for digging and mining) has been set to 2500% energy instead of the current 5000%.

Aside from this change (that very unfortunately isn't documented ANYWHERE in-game) the FEP bar works exactly like it does in Legacy.*
Not specified in the quote: feasting at a table will always give you FEP/hunger, so if you need to gobble up your energy food without one. (And remember to stop eating them after you reach more than 8000% energy.)

*The variety bonus has been somewhat nerfed - after eating certain amount of different foods (maybe 3 or 5?) the reduction in required amount of FEPs becomes increasingly smaller. Basically "diminished returns."

Probably the best int food early in the game is fish, they are plentiful and most varieties provide int. Cook over fireplace, in smoker, or dry in racks.
