Mining

Postby riker88 » Thu May 12, 2016 2:19 am

So Inside a cave I click mine on one of the walls and my character starts swinging away with his stone axe.

I get 5% every swing until it reaches 100% , then nothing happens and the counter starts at 0% again. After 3-4 rounds from 0-100% I get nothing accept all my stamina is drained.

Why can't I extract Ore?

well: hacking at a wall will sooner or later destroy it, revealing nearby walls and what they contain. I suggest you to take a look at the sevenless guide up in the sticky.

if the wall is the default gray cave wall, you will get nothing from it
once you mine it enough, it'll be gone and show the touching walls which you can then mine

i recommend not mining until atleast 30 str or trading someone for a pickaxe

as said already mining the first grey tile in the cave doesnt give you any ore/stone/coal whatever it is. It starts from 0 again because you dont have enough strenght to break the tile in one try (if you get a pickaxe and around 100 strenght you should be able to break all tileblocks on the cave level in one swing). Also theres skills that effect the outcome of mining, such as tunneling (low tier) and deep artifce (end tier)

Try to find a vein, get enough ore to smelt hopefully into iron, (tin +copper = bronze) and get smithy hammer/anvil/pickaxe in that order (requires like 7 metal). Once you have a pickaxe and 30 strength you will tear apart the underbelly of the world.

I got past the first wall segment. I have 25 STR. burnt through 3 full bars of stamina hacking away at the next wall segment and nothing...

I would think the progress bar would knock down the wall at 100% , instead it just keeps resetting which is very frustrating.

I guess I will get strength up to 30 and try again.

This is how mining works. Every time the hourglass empties, you have a chance at chipping something out of the tile you're mining. After a seemingly random number of cycles, you break the tile completely. (I'm sure there's a system to when the tile breaks, but it's beyond my reasonable guesses.)

If you can't get anything out of the tile, you get the error messages about the stone being too hard.

I would presume that you know about cave-ins and how to avoid them? Otherwise it might be a very bad idea
