I found cassiterite, but there was no pointer pointing to the nearest ore. Even after I move a few step over and the rock underneath was limestone, no pointer appear for me pointing towards the ore.
What am I doing wrong? it is going to be just random luck to find ore with rustroot now, since I can only see whats under my feet.

He's talking out of his ass, there's no pointer or "pie slice" in the game. It only tells you what stone / ore is beneath. I've tried and tested this with hundreds of charges near several different ore and coal nodes. With jars of q10 and extract of q10.
