Planting Trees

Postby CaptainMidget » Thu Sep 17, 2015 8:28 am

Now, If I remember right there had to be a certain amount of space between a tree and an object. Is this still the case? If so, How much space does a tree need in EACH direction to be able to grow?

+1, I'd like to know aswell. I planted mine with 3 tiles in-between, kinda hoping you don't have to leave too much space.

Nothing that blocks movement in a 5*5 area where the tree is right in the middle. If it didn't get changed.

So does that mean, we have to have 5 blocks in EVERY direction, including diagonal? And what defines blocking movement? We can move through say, wheat, so can we plant wheat all around the tree?

No it means the tree has to be alone in a 5*5 area

This works.
You can plant wheat any crop but not bushes or other trees.
But you can't have toads running around when it decides to check for stunting. If it makes your character stop when you bump into it it will stunt trees.
Pavement doesn't stop movement so it will work in the 5*5. The tree tile ideally needs to be the right terrain type for that tree. Which they will terraform on their own while growing though somewhat unreliably.

This is how it used to work.

Yes, terraforming used to be important, meaning that if you planted a tree in a foreign biome, the tree would grow at a drastically reduced rate, while over time, terraforming the foreign biome to its native biome. This said, if it still works this way, there are signifficantly more biomes now and it would probably wise to take care that you don't attempt to grow trees from multiple biomes in the same area as it should mean that the biomes constantly compete in terraforming and all of your trees constantly growing at a significantly reduced rate.

My advice is that, if you plant trees in a forign biome (which you will probably have to do the first time) that you do so once and then stick with trees from the terraformed native biome in that 'tree farm'.

(Yes, you will physically be able to see the terraformed ground tiles)
