Key safety

Now that key alts aren't as viable, how do I keep as safe as possible with keys and etc?
Keep the master inside, and only take a slave out, using hearth to get in?

Seems like it, which gets annoying when you have multiple secured and walled off areas

Hide keys, make slave keys, & rely on teleporting. Honestly might be better off seeing what the useful tips thread has to offer; as some things are pretty handy.

Nope, you make a key alt. No excuses. They're more expensive now, but they're still worth having. And yeah you use hearthing for the day to day stuff.

I have a less important walled off area, the gate points in so slaves can access it. Key being, they can get in once if they kill someone for a slave, but after that you still have the master key to scramble the lock.

With a normal setup it doesn't even matter if your slave key gets stolen since it doesn't work from the outside. Why would you even waste time with a key alt if the key is literally useless to potential raiders? I'm tempted even to just keep a key in some log nearby so it doesn't waste inventory space after I've gotten outside.

Because betrayal is still possible. In fact it's more viable than ever before.

Key alt doesn't fix that. Nothing really does.

When you have several walled off locations, and you can place HF, and thus teleport, to only one of them, it's inevitable that the remaining ones will be accessible with the use of keys, and thus prone to infiltration by attackers who manage to steal some keys.

Key alt does too help that. The leader is the only one who gets the key alt pass. Mast keys only need to be rolled out to make new slaves, and it's cheap to prep extra copies in advance if you're expecting new recruits. Extra slaves on hand do not compromise base security after all.

When I say key alt, I mean the kind that never logs in. Not the kind that opens doors. It's for holding master keys in case your base is compromised via ram, or someone sneaking in a gate.

Build your base inside multiple rings of defense. Raiders will still have to break every last wall to get into said area where the stolen keys will be a minuscule use to their gargantuan effort.
