Improve performance and fix lag?

Postby wolf1000wolf » Tue Sep 29, 2015 2:12 am

So my toaster only has integrated graphics (Radeon HD 4250) and I've noticed significant lag (0.5 sec to 1 sec)... while increases (up to 3 seconds) when I'm near fires and developed settlements.

Any advice on how to improve performance? I've turned all the settings off already... I vaguely recall something about triple buffering and such?

Please help.

Look in your Catalyst settings for OpenGL, and turning triple buffering should be the only option. On slower systems, it can cause significant input lag. You might try to adjust any other performance settings through Catalyst, too, such as AA, AI, and overall performance profiles.

You didn't mention which CPU you use and other hardware specs. That can make a huge difference. Also try to shut down anything that might use CPU cycles or RAM when playing.

How would a windows vista, 32x bit reduce this lag? I don't believe I have this, "Catalyst"?

Sadly turning on/off triple buffering didn't seem to do much. =/

Turn down the client graphics options, in case this isn't enough please try a custom client and disable flavour objects / engage nightvision.

Using Amber client with flavour objects off, per-fragment lighting/shadows/antialiasing off. Anistropic filtering is also off. Biome tile transitions disabled.

Have 8g of RAM.

Triple buffering off. CPU Max power. AI off.

Still with noticable input delay. Is 166ms ping really that bad?

That depends, I find haven to be pretty laggy in general, probably doesn't help I live in Australia, but that's beside the point. Are we talking 0.5 second - 1 second delays or does it just feel "laggy"?
I had a retardedly huge signature and have gotten this embarrassing replacement to show for it.

Humans perceive everything visual with > 30ms delay as delayed.
With audio the minimum delay is shorter since the processing in the brain is more direct.

A ping of 160 ms is clearly noticeable.
Could you post the output of tracert to the game server (game.havenandhearth.com)?

I suggest you get a decent older card on ebay. For example, a Radeon HD 6870 shouldn't cost much more than 10€ these days (although your PSU needs to be able to handle it).
