How to make bats stop spawning?

So, I have claimed a cave and started mining in it. It works fine, but bats keep spawning everywhere! Is there a way to make them stop? Light up the place like you'd do in minecraft perhaps? I hate the bloody things, and I just want to mine in peace.

nope, just gotta keep killing 'em

Edit: as seven said just below, you could fence off an area and claim it, nothing would spawn within that, but it's not worth it.

You could drop a village or personal claim to stop them spawning, but it's important to note that that's... a touch "inefficient".

It only takes 30ua and 20+ agi to kill them. They drop great curio, good food, entrails/bone. They are quite a useful resource.

you can do it with a little lower stats too. just fight them one at a time, keep quick dodge and sidestep on and jump when they start getting IP, couple punches and they flee. after a few tries it gets pretty easy, and you only have to do it every half hour or so.

How do I know they get IP?

Those blue numbers on either side of the combat interface are the IP each side has gained. Just watch for those to start ticking up.

They probably stop spawning if you pave the ground.

I;ve seen a pretty big underground village already and I was quite jelly. still want to make great hall of moria.
