How to kill bears?

Now that bears not only bash your face, but also bash just about everything under the sun... How do we kill bears? I did about 500 damage to a bear earlier by cliff punching before it ran, but I can only do 200-220 damage with a bow shot. Meaning I need RNGesus on my side for that extra 80~ points of damage to kill it with a bow. Any tips for a solo hunter?

Bears that go under 200hp will go rage mode and attack you. With a proper sized cliff (obviously and luck finding one where the bear runs to) you can shoot the bear to rage it and just shoot it again.

Beyond that, it should be feasible to get a soldier sword that'd deal more than 300points of damage, although I couldn't say what STR or quality you'd need to get that.

I am pretty sure bears don't give a fuck about cliffs anymore. I might be wrong but the one I tried to cliff had near instant pathfinding all the way to me.

After the lynx update the way I have killed bears is to get on a horse, punch down their green defense while they are in between ticks using side horse attacks, then chop at it til it runs, track it and scare it into cliffs so I can chop again until its enraged, then do the in between ticks again. It complicated but you can do it without getting a single scratch.

That aside... Can some one upload a gif on how this "horse, side-hitting" works? I tried it out after I heard about it with a boar and that boar just whooped my ass, whole sale.

I've been meaning to try hunting a bear, but I will have to wait until todays injuries heal. I was curious what the consequences on my HHP will be if I fuck up? How high do I need to have it to be sure worst case scenario I just get KO'd, and not killed.

how to kill a bear:

get a character with high agi, high str, high cons, high UA, high melee, high Q armor, high Q sword. Good "hunting".

Not entirely true, but it does seems like you need a larger cliff than before

you need a really large cliff! Even badgers can path arround half-minimap wide cliffs now.
