Look for boulders like this ↓ (may be different in color)

that said, some spawn areas might have most depleted, although i had no problems finding one when i spawned a new char 2 weeks ago.

pick berries, nuts, apples and such, and see if they are eatable. sometimes you can find an edible ugly worm too.

lol oh well, if you arent a kind of person who enjoys finding out new stuff, it could be confusing. quite a few things are different from legacy.
(crimes work very differently too, and i wouldnt recommend you to go "criminal act on" when you are desperate.)

here you go, maybe you want to read a guide;

(i havent read it yet, as i rather want to try all myself first, but we all know who sev is.)

either way, you have just started, so if you are desperate, just create a new character and you may get lucky to spawn in better area. (i had no problems finding stone and food until i tried to make a fire.)

This version is a lot more forgiving than legacy.

Seems to be a lack of it in the spawning area, unfortunately.
