Is there any way i could play the old haven and hearth? I just don't like this new version as much

Yes, you have to purchase a verified account, which will then give you unlimited access to the old haven.

Yes there is

If you validate your account through the store page ($15) you can then play the old version on that account for an unlimited amount of time

It was free because the devs were paying out of pocket for it and it cleaned out their savings. Without some kind of profit incentive it just wasn't sustainable.
