How do noobs kill bears?

I'm trying to get started mining and need a bear cape and talisman. I have 16MM, q10 bow, and q10-15 arrows. Is it realistic for me to try to kill a bear? What current methods are there? Ive read stuff from the beginning of the world about trapping. But I'm afraid of what might be out of date.

I think the easier way is using bow, try to find a good place to don't get hit and keep fallowing him. or u can find a good place to let it stuck.

I remember baiting a bear to a cliffside, then friend used alt to make roundpole fence a little bit away ( 20tiles from bear) and when you shot it from ontop of the cliff, the bear would just run around inside the blocked passage. it was our easiest way of killing bears.

Sadly bears can now break roundpole fence, so this WILL NOT work.

You can kill it with some perception, mm and q15 arrows, some cliffs and a lot of patience. You need a lot of water because he will flee eventually. You can pursue him and if you are lucky you wont loose him. Disengage when he flee and follow him. After a lot of time you will manage to kill him. At least thats what i used to do. Now i just punch them to death.

This is incorrect.

Just yesterday two players form my village that are rather new were able to kill 2 bears with relative ease.

Luring a bear to a cliff and then placing stockpiles of items (Blocks of wood, planks, stone, branches, etc) and then shooting the bear will not cause the bear to break anything.



Heres how it works:

Lure bear to cliff

If it runs around the cliff, it WILL break anything in its path because it is still aggressive towards you. Climb down the cliff and hope it stays up above and doesnt continuously run around the cliff because if it does, the cliff is much too small. However if the bear stays stuck on the other side of the cliff, then you can have an alt place objects as mentions above it at a safe distance.

After you have completely enclosed the bear, you may shoot it. 99/100 times it will simply start running away from you and run wildly around the newly constructed cage of blocks of wood magically trapping it. Keep shooting it until its eyes begin flaming. It will likely run right back to you. At this point it is no longer trying to peace you, and as such if you move from your beginning location it will likely run around and break anything blocking its path (siince its no longer peacful towards you).

If this happens hop up and down until you find a location that the bear stops trying to get to you and then shoot it until its dead. If it keeps running around in the cage after the eyes are on fire, continue shooting it.

Congrats, you just got yourself a free bear

Why bother spending 10 sticks to make a fence corner when you can make 10 1-stick stockpiles? This is "How Do I?," so further explanation is helpful instead of just posting an idea and leaving it at that.

To OP: this game has a lot of design flaws as it is still in early development stages, so there's a lot of exploits such as this you can use. You often have to look for them or just read the forums in depth for them to be mentioned by others. Asking helps, but won't always get you a well defined answer.

to note, bears and other "large" animals were changed so they could break through fences and such*, but there are still flaws in the design and you can trick them into ignoring the constructions.

*this was actually first implemented in world 5, but with the new version of haven, it was either overlooked or put on the back burner until the server was up and running. Many tears were had when it was reimplemented.

because you built cornerpost then you can place out the extension sign for the bit of the fence so you don't have to get as close to the bear and you only have to build in 1 stick for the extention. you can do that while keeping a good distance away from the bear and makes it easier rather than staying there placing stockpile after stockpile and giving the bear more time to get the aggro off and break all your work and kill your alt.
