Can we not speed that thing up. Like freeing a wolf or waking a serpent :).

I'll elaborate that the world will end on Thursday, February 18th, 7:56 AM UTC if Altar of Ruin remains intact until that time.

PLEASE read the announcement threads, at least the dev comments in them. Jorb clearly stated they wanted at least two weeks to get things ready for the reset. More time would be put to use on their end if we drug it out by breaking or resetting the altar, but they weren't going to let it drag out months, either.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Best grief of all players would be for someone to destroy the alter and make everyone suffer (have no game) for another 2 weeks (or more). I honestly would not be surprised to see it happen

Not going to happen unless the soak decay on walls is added to buildings.

It's legitimately up in the air at the moment. It's conceivable that the altar could be destroyed, then a new one would need to be erected to start the countdown again unless JLo decide to nuke the world regardless. I question whether anyone has the materials necessary to start one stockpiled. Its been a skeleton crew the last couple of weeks so resource production has likely been slow.
