A large portion of the game is limited by the quality of raw materials you can find (Water, dirt, sand, ect.). The quality of natural resources you find is limited by your survival skill. That is to say, you probably want a character with high exploration and survival in order to find these high quality resource nodes throughout the hearthlands. These stats will also help you find curiosities to increase the rate at which you're able to generate LP. See here:
ForagingMining is necessary to craft a good portion of the mid-to-late game items and structures. Similar to exploration/survival, mining has quality nodes. The higher the quality node, the higher the metal ore you will receive when mining. However, unlike exploration/survival, you are not directly limited by your current skills when harvesting these resources. You must have a sufficient combination of Strength and mining tool quality in order to have enough power to break rock walls to extract ore. In addition to the strict stat requirement of mining, there are several skills you can learn that enable to increase the % chance your mined ore becomes a metal ingot inside of a smelter. See here:
MiningSince you'll be getting points into Strength on your miner, you'd may as well use him for combat as well. Combat in Haven is a bit confusing at first, but after you get the hang of it it's relatively simple. Three of the stats you definitely want in order to survive are Strength, Agility, and Constitution. I'd recommend leveling these stats up at the same time because your FEP bar requires more FEPs to receive a point in attribute as your highest stat also increases. That being said, once you have >50 agility and strength, you can probably start to fight and kill small game animals like foxes and badgers. Since you'll presumably no longer have a use for LP after you get your mining skills it's best to dump the extra LP into melee and unarmed combat. There are some other guides on the forum you can dig around for, for a more in depth explanation. See here:
FEPs and
HuntingA direct alternative for new players, since they won't have the stats to use melee combat to kill animals is archery. A few points in marksmen is all that is really necessary to do this.
