When to Start Hunting?

Postby Artyom15 » Sat Aug 20, 2016 4:34 am

I am just curious on what stats I should have before I should even consider starting to hunt Foxes and Boars.

Right now I have 1 UA (Going to dump some LP into that over the next few days)
12 Marksmanship (Same with UA)
14 Strength and Agility
24 Const.
And 27 Perc.

What should I get everything up to before I start hunting?

Get around 20-25 agi, same with ua, some leather armor, and some combat moves from fighting ants. Remember to keep blocks up, and exploit the various defensive weaknesses that the fox has and you should do fine.

Made a hunting alt, feeding said alt a bunch of Bread, Honey Buns and gonna find a food with good Strength FEP's then get UA and Marksmanship up. Maybe get Melee Combat up and use my Q63 Stone Axe that I found. That'd probably do some damage against foxes and shit.

Start learning with ants. one ant at time.

Don't worry, I won't go off on a bear-hunt for my first time (this time at least). Would a stone axe be any good as a weapon, or should I stick to using my fistos?

You can hunt anything with 0 skills if you learn to trap. I think it's a fun part of the game and there's a lot more strategy than you would think.

If you're into combat get like 40 UA to safely kill foxes. 75 UA to safely kill boars. You can do it with way less depending on your armor and moves.

You can't use a weapon until you learn the skill that goes with it. You'll need the weapon equipped to learn the skill though. So keep your axe equipped. Also I think your MC skill increases the chance of learning weapon moves but I'm not sure.

To learn a new move you'll see it randomly pop up in your cards while fighting. I think you need to successfully land the hit to learn it, so make sure their defenses are down first. You only get one chance per fight, and not every fight.

Use a weapon. Even a stone axe does more damage than your fists. I forget the damage formulas off the top of my head without looking them up, but with fists, you're just doing something like sqrt (STR) * 50. with a stone axe, you're using a multiplier for both the STR and axe quality.

Just remember that melee weapon attacks tend to have a slower cooldown than other attacks, so try to use them as finishers.

Well I said "Screw it" and tested boat hunting for the first time. Works better than Sevenless's cliff strategy IMO. Just aggro a boar close to the shore, boat out slightly, hit it once until it runs away, then beat it to death with your BARE HANDS.

So far I've killed 5 boars and only taken damage once because of using a narrow river. Should've remembered that this strategy worked in Legacy.

Nice. Don't try that with a bear though. It will take fucking forever if you can even keep up with it. They are also known to attack randomly after running.
