Can somebody give me a reason to play for more than 5 mins?

Postby YoukaiMori » Sun Oct 30, 2016 12:05 am

Honestly. I used to play back in the day, but quit after the Curiosity system change, but now that Hafen is out I decided to give it one more shot, it's just that... I can't find a reason to play for more than 5 minutes at a time.

At first I thought the EXP pop ups when I was finding new things were a reason to keep exploring, but I kind of ran out of things to find after maybe 15-20 minutes, even after finding an abandoned town and "discovering" all of the things in it for the first time for exp.

But now, after less than 24 hours of playing the game again, there's just.. no reason to actually play. At this point, I can't kill anything so there's no reason to try to hunt, I can't craft most things still (Or even craft the prerequisites for most things), I can't speed up the gain of LP, I can't even cook foods to start getting certain stats I want. I just... Can't do anything.

So I've ALREADY started just logging in every few hours so my curiosities refresh, then immediately logging out because there's no reason to run around.

Am I missing something? Does somebody have some insight into what exactly you're supposed to do while you're studying curiosities which you are required to do in order to get the LP required to learn the skills which are required to make the items required to have fun? Am I doing it wrong or something?

So they let you hunt for LP now like you used to be able to?

So you're telling me the game is essentially "Get to the point where you can kill things, then never care about curiosities again and hunt for LP like everybody used to do anyways"?

you can look for abandoned places and try to scavenge some of the stuff left behind, i love doing that.
or do the quests the game gives you. basically just go out and explore!
i never run out of things to do on haven

I dont see any reason aswell tbh XD I used to play this game like all day long back on Legacy, it was fun to grind stats, it was fun to fight people and raise quality of your stuff, right now everything is so boring and pvp doesnt really exist.

Seriously?
You can start out by building a small base, get some drying frames set up, pick up critters, forageables, curios.
Then you can claim the spot, build a pali, start a farm, get your skills higher. Mine, hunt, cook, expand, explore, hang sexy pixelated lady pictures everywhere.
From there you get more options to branch into specific stuff. Get a buddy to play a role you like less. Go fuck up some people. Or make friends with your neighbours.

The only time where all you have to do in haven is login to study curios is when you have EVERYTHING. Not when you have absolutely nothing.

At first it's about building a bad-ass base, then it becomes a quality grind.

The goal is to raise quality to have better foods, clothing, weapons, and armor

Games these days have people so tied to that Pavlovian bit of food number popup every few minutes. Learn to ignore it and set bigger goals in the game.

There are points where you do need to just log out because you have to wait on some skill or other from enough accumulated LP, and then you just have to log out and wait (or cut wood prepping for whatever you need it for).
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
