High Quality Clay Exploring

Postby atrey4u » Tue Nov 01, 2016 4:42 am

Hi guys, title says it all. I've researched on Brodgar and the old Haven wiki on finding high quality basic resources. The Water and the Soil seem quite accurate but the Clay seems a bit outdated or it feels like it doesn't work. It feels similar to finding high quality water but I'm not exactly sure on the mechanics which brings you the actual question. The method to finding high quality clay(Q45+) OTHER than making Bone Clay? OR any other method would be wonderful and I'm sure many players would like to know this information. Thank you for your time ^_^

clay:

acre clay: find mudflats(those patches of dirt found naturally) and hope the acre clay is decent quality

ball clay: dig in shallow water along rivers and lakes until you find decent quality nodes.

pit clay: pray you find a clay pit

gray clay: with high enough perXexp you can find gray clay, but its q is pretty variable and its never in large quantites

cave clay: ^^^^

bone clay: make bone clay

Yes I've tried most except the Bone Clay producement with no luck =(. I was mainly speaking on traveling shallow waters with a rowboat and a shovel. Any method for Ball Clay? Seems to be the easiest and most resourceful atm.The Brodgard wiki says dig till you keep digging then travel every 5 squares and it works slightly. It mentions if it doesn't dig more than once to move 2 minimap tiles. I don't understand the mechanic behind that specific instruction though. I get digging every 5 to follow the clay trail though.

finding good ball clay is pretty similar to water.

dig a spot, if the quality is low, move about 1 map tile away and try again. it's not necessary to dig more than 1 piece of clay. if you find a decent quality, check in a ~5 tile radius and look if it gets higher or lower. keep on doing that until you find the highest quality.

generally speaking, finding high quality ball clay is really fuckin' tough. i've searched every river and lake within two hours of my base and the best i've found is a 30/60/35 node.

Oh wow good information thank you. Ya that's what I've been doing, by map tile do you mean ( and I'm using amber client) the red outlines you can pin on the minimap or an actual mini map? I never understood that. Also if your the ricky on the wiki updating info and putting in scientific data thank you ^_^ I've read a few things that you've done. If that is in fact you. So I guess the only way to get higher than 60 without super luck is grinding Bone Clay?

yeah, that red grid on Amber's minimap is 1 map tile. from what I've seen, each map tile has its own node of sorts. it's not very often that I find nodes that span more than two map tiles. Yeah, now that bone clay is in, that's just about the most consistent way to get high quality clay. finding a good clay node is mostly just luck.

and yeah, I've been updating the wiki here and there. thanks, it feels good knowing people are actually getting use from my edits.

I'm also interested in this inquiry, I've only found deep water in caves and the wiki says its from "shallow" water in the caves, dug up ofc. Would be useful information. In any case it would be wonderful to fill this topic up with enough information to stick on the wiki once and for all. I'm sure there is an enormous amount of players wanting to know this information since clay is mandatory just like the other basic resources.

I thought ~q40 average clay is quite common, like every 3rd lake has something around that. Apart from that, I found 1 claimed node with something like q 52 (Idk but at some point it looked like the actual max q area wasnt claimed despite the quite large claimed area, but when I returned in a couple of days it was all claimed. In addition to that I have found a couple of q49 nodes and one q53.8 which I am using and I haven't seen any higher so far. :(
Also, I wish pit/cave clay were more common. Haven't seen any cave clay so far and have just 3 pieces of pit clay :(
