taming aurouchs, what am i doing wrong.

Postby jpublic » Thu Nov 17, 2016 4:58 pm

I don't know how I am messing this up. (trying to tame Mr. Auroch, and I switch to peace as soon as battle begins btw)

75 in UA
56 in agility
had low quality chest, legs, feet in leather armor(can't remember the numbers as one fight destroyed all three pieces)

and I am still getting my ass handed to me from mr auroch

first off, I wait till he is in his stance, then I begin with the punches. when one of the attacks start getting like a lil bit, I switch to my restorations, it would seem they have lil effect, so I am thinking I have shit restorations. my battle deck is this:

punch, chin up, jump, quick dodge, side step, and oak stance.

I started out with punch, with chin up on, and like I said, tried to keep my debuffs down. but I think he overwhelmed me, the whole thing tool less than a minute or two, felt very fast, a lil too fast for my taste.

any advise, cause this is really beginning to Suck

I feel your pain. I finally tamed my first mouflon. My victory over it was overly easy. I got a couple of SHP loss maybe 5 or so and that was it.

I figured it was time to try an aurouch.. boy was I wrong. I got my back side totally handed to me. I tried a different one after I healed up. Boom I saw nothing but stars..

I'm tempted to start using a sword and making metal armour next.

I've read that you can glitch your taming by using boulders so the animal can't hit you, or by using a boat and staying in deep water during the attack cooldown.

I would just get bronze armour and a sword and spam chop. Just don't hit her so hard that your damage is greater than the difference between fleeing and death. You could do a couple chops and finish with punches if you're worried that you might kill her.

I just don't understand the concept, I guess

was fighting against ants, and I couldn't keep the debuffs at a manageable level. I just stood there hitting quick dodge and sidestep, and the debuffs barely went down. With my UA and Agi I couldn't keep up my defense against ants. WTF

I have to be doing something wrong, but I just don't understand what. Is it the fact I am just standing there? when I looked on youtube for taming vids, they just stood there and kept their defence moderated.

man do I miss legacy combat more than ever :(

Your stats should definitely be enough.
First try getting a higher q armor. Bronze plate is dope but if you can't do that yet just the best leather ones you can. You'll always lose a bit of hp, but it shouldn't wreck u.
Use a shield too. There's a shield stance that's pretty good.
For combat, I personally never use restorations since they lower so little and you can spend that time to keep spamming punches.
I noticed on average aurouchs took ~250 damage until they were defeated. So yeah, maybe make sure you used all the Punch points you can in your deck and just spam punch.

If you have any way of displaying the total damage in combat (Amber client has that option) use it, and see how close you are to 250.

first off, I believe bronze is outta reach.

secondly, I don't have any points in mc, so why use a shield?

so then you don't manage/lower the debuffs, it's just a race to see who gets knocked out first?

I guess if you can't use shield / bronze armor, the only option is to get the best quality leather set.
And yeah, since I started hunting / taming with this new system I never had to use restorations.
They have miserably long cooldowns and yield so little.. As long as you hit harder and faster than the animal you should always win, with a little bit of damage that yarrow can take away.

Maybe it's different in PVP, but for animals I'm sure of this.

Get the wwoodsmanship skill for combat med

Stack armor and health and just punch spam in combat med

Wild cows are much harder than sheep, so start with sheep if you have to

Setup a hitching post near some water, once its time to fight them hop in a boat, aggro them, head outside of attack range while in the boat, peace them, move into punch range, punch, retreat, rinse and repeat until subdued. Should take little to no damage using this method.

the debuffs don't go away... your moves do a %, like 10-50%, that reduces a % by that
say the 'debuff' is halfway, use a move like quick dodge will remove! 20% of 50%... so 10% off of that
now the attacker uses the opposite i believe. say new fight! you got 100% defense, they use punch. 15% of 100% is... 15%, try to 'quick dodge' it away gives you 20% of 15% reductions... 3%!
that is for the 'debuff' how much you apply to an enemy is under 'opening' some moves don't apply the same opening color as damage is shown. 'uppercut' does green/blue damage but yellow 'debuff'

damage is calculated by the square of the 'debuff' so 50% = 25% damage and 60% = 36% | 70% = 49% | 80% = 64% | 90% = 81%
now.. it gets tricky when attacks use multiple 'debuffs'. the move 'uppercut' uses green and blue and that damage is combined from both colors/'debuffs'. if you have 30% in both green/blue you do... 26% -damage- then 40%/40% = 40% -damage- | 50%/50% = 56%

just keep your 'debuff' under 50% as much as you can. the defensive abilities are more effective the higher the debuff is and much weaker at the start. you are going to take damage this combat style, make sure you have the best armor you can. try to combo attacks

remember damage is off of your strength stat, agility is only how fast you attack. i believe agility does -not- affect defense moves.
