Claim shield mechanics

Postby tirioll » Wed Jan 18, 2017 5:48 pm

Let's say I have a village that looks like this:
Image

My understanding is that destroying anything on the claim will drain the shield. Does it mean that attackers can easily take the shield down by punching the fire or any other object outside of palisade that has zero soak? Or they could even build a new object and then start destroying it to break the shield?

If that's true, it seems that in order to be safe, I need to palisade entire claim, so that there would be no claimed tiles around it. So that attacker needs siege machines to destroy the shield. Correct?

Building fire does not work as this.

There have been lots of changes and it is a bit messy so maybe I have miss some later revision to this one. Your best bet for good understanding is to read all patches completely. But gist is that you are safe to claim outside your wall. It is good idea to claim some tiles outside of your wall so people can not block your gate with annoying item!

Plus, even if fire tactic is working, this is not very big deals I think. You must use siege machine to deal damage to claim shield and claim shield can only take a certain amount of damage per hour. Soak of items just matters for hand bashing and difficulty of kill after shield is down.

Thanks, that jorb quote is reassuring. But what about roundpole fences? Are they walls?

I am not sure if they are consider ''walls,'' I would guess yes. But regardless of ''wall'' status, you can still bash roundpole fence by hand even under shield. If you are worry about some men coming to build roundpole fence on your claim and use siege engine on it to lower your shield, I think this is exact same as them just using siege engine on your palisade directly. So this is not a concern.

It would be great if all of the siege mechanics and stats were kept somewhere, updated. Honestly the devs should do this since this is something I think the playerbase is 'designed' to know.

Developers have said that they do not like to maintain external documenting because it could become out of sync with how game actually works. If you like to know how game works right now, it is best for you to test it. Obvious this is huge hassle, which is why we have player wiki as working around. But then this falls out of sync and we have proved the developer concerns true.

I mean, if attackers punch my fences (=attacking walls), can they take down shield without using siege machines? I'd guess not, but the quote is a little ambiguous:

You must use siege machine (catapult, battering ram, wrecking ball) to damage shield. Bashing by hand does not interact with shield at all.

A logical follow-up... What objects are considered "authority objects"? Idol, banner, chief statue? Anything else?
