Higher Quality Clay???

Postby Gokkeblomst » Thu Apr 27, 2017 6:47 pm

Having trouble finding high quality clay, i cant seem to find anything above 32 and i have searched quite a while now.

I know that there is bone glue, but finding "finer clay" is a pain in the butt, and i need alot of clay, atleast 45Q+

Any of you guys have any tips on how to evolve the Q quicker?

BTW my stats with my current outfit is:
Masonry 60
Smithing 64
Survival 59
Exploration 42

anything else that might block my findings?

RNG (random number generator) depends on the spot as well, just like the stuff you forage, and the water you get out of the rivers/lakes it all depends on location.

masonry just caps what you find when mining ore/digging, i believe thats it though.

Please coorect me if i am wrong as i dont want the wrong info going out

So what you are telling me is that i just have to keep searching, and that it has nothing to do with my levels?

Ball clay and Acre clay (the stuff you dig from river beds and clay fields) is not random, there are static nodes on the map which yield clay of a certain quality (until it runs out, Ball clay regenerates, Acre clay does not but you will have to dig VERY far down to empty it).

For example, next to my current residence, there is Q43 ball clay along the shore. I know exactly where it is.

Whatever quality you dig up, however, if it is higher than your Masonry skill, its quality will be REDUCED to exactly your Masonry skill. If it's lower than your Masonry skill, the q isn't altered.

I'm not sure about Cave and Grey clays, which are foraged. Their nodes might move around, or they might be static like all other forageables. They are, however, capped by your Masonry skill, unlike other forageables which are capped by Survival.

So, if your Masonry is high, then the problem is you haven't found a good quality node yet.

Also note: quality attenuates as you drift from the node so if you have found Q20 or whatever, take more samples from nearby, see in which direction the q is going up and follow it until it stops. Remember that you're working in two dimensions (though, with Clay, you're often digging in the shore and can't just stroll into deep water or out of the water, so you're often limited to two axes.

Clay pits are also an option, there are some with higher quality (but usually empty).

The red flats where thorny thistles spawn.
