Minehole in cellar

Postby _Gunnar » Sun Sep 24, 2017 11:27 pm

I just discovered I can build a minehole in my cellar!

Quite cute - but before I build it, a couple questions

1) will the resulting mine be on level 1 or level 2?
2) can you build a palisade on the tiles that are automatically mined out by the minehole? i.e. will I be able to secure my base even if the surrounding rock is too hard to me to dig.

thanks!

minehole in a cellar works as if the house was a minehole, so on wilderness/open world > house > cellar > minehole > mine l1 > house > cellar > minehole > mine l2 and so on

can't build walls or gates inside houses. but wall/gate can be built around the minehole rope ladder. afaik the minehole is centered depending on the house x, y and not the x, y of positioning in the basement

this allows you to have a 'battery' of stone towers in a relatively small area then build cellars/mineholes in each stone tower for a lot of storage for underground access (such as level 1 in mines have 2stone towers, level 3 will only show the 2 ladders into the 2 towers above for a smaller footprint). then with the help of barter stands, you could 'move' stuff in/out of the stone tower cluster for a large storage system

The key with walling in a hole with a palisade above and below is to not give anyone a place to build a ram or wrecking ball to take down a wall from the inside* so they're guaranteed to get a visitor flag. You might be able to cover a house with a wall in such a way to prevent this, but kind of defeats the purpose of hiding the minehole in a house, doesn't it? I'd think if people see a house walled in this way, it'd indicate someone is trying to come up from the inside.

*even if they were to take out the wall below and avoid the flag, they'd still be stymied in an infiltration attempt.

Ok just curious from this post, so say person goes under ground in minehole and places hf there, another breaks the minehole whether from breaking house or the minehole itself. If no cave systems are around is dude basically untouchable to rest of world?

At that point the character better have plenty of water on hand, and a pickax, or they will stay down there until they starve, or are rescued.

It's not like someone else can't build a new mine-hole next to it and dig into it.
