Fishing questions

Postby _Gunnar » Mon Sep 25, 2017 4:26 am

1) Are their fish that can only be caught with one of the fishingpole/casting-rod?
2) I have heard that the phase of the moon matters; is this true?
3) How does the number of options visible with the casting-rod depend on will & survival? I currently can always see 2..

I just started the fishing credo, immediately stuck trying to find grayling :)
Kindof wish I had done this credo first instead of 3rd!

1, no
2, not sure about day of moon, but day time vs night time is certainly true.
3, i believe its your chance of catching fish increases, i currently see 3, but the bottom number is always around 0-5% chance of catching it, so pretty much pointless to try for. Maybe if i continued improving those stats theyd get better.

Graylings, I believe you need to try a copper plug, or whatever its called, and fish in a deep lake. Honestly, just build every lure you can, and experiment. Graylings are rare, or so they seem. eventually youll know what every fish is caught with by the time you are done the quest, and then immediately info dump it all after.

Thanks - good to know, especially 1)

What does the % actually indicate? is it the chance of catching the fish with the current lure etc, or just the maximal chance if you have the right equipment?

and another question:

are the fish organized into individual local nodes for each fish, each of which has a timetable and preferred lure? or are their overall "fish nodes" which then give different fish based on time & equipment?

(i.e. should I be marking the specific location I found certain rare fish, or could I have found them in any similar location with the same gear at that time of day)

It seems to be chance for this try. There seem to be lure/hook combinations (at least one for every fish, I think) that, when used, will show you the fish (so you can aim for it) but will always be lost when you actually try to catch it with this combination.

im pretty sure that fishing is node based, during the quest, i motored about and found a 100% lavaret fishing node. But, if i switched to another lure, i would no longer find that fish, but the fish i found wasnt 100% like the lavaret was in the same spot.

It's most definitely node based, I have a 27% chance for eel in one tile, and no eel at all five tiles over. The curious thing is that it gradually builds to the 27% node from one side, but abruptly transitions to a 90%~ plaice node on the other side. Also, line is important too, I only get eel at this spot with hide strap, bone hook and rock lobster.

I'm pretty convinced about the nodes now - I've been asked for grayling several times now as part of the credo quests, and I can consistently find it in a particular spot a few tiles wide :)

Good tip about the line, I will have to try varying that too.

Or you could, you know, write it down for other people's information.
