Postby FearTheAmish » Thu Nov 09, 2017 2:23 pm

Hello,

Came back after a loooonnnnggg hiatus and attempting to get back into the game. Only problem is seems i cant figure out hunting/combat anymore. Does anyone know of any good guides or able to provide some hints/tips?

Hunting is almost entirely done via melee/horseback now. Bears can dismount you with a nasty move, I forget exactly what the technique with them was but last I was playing this world and hunting it involved boat cheese.

Noob combat is punch/left hook until dead. Once you get some cards, you move into opening green via punches, take aim/watch its moves for IP and then landing chop. Once you've acquired more moves/powered up, quick barrage + cleave (+opknock if you have the UA as well) becomes preferred. You'll notice this is pure melee, and you can stop leveling UA somewhere between 30-50 to switch to full melee if you're just intending to hunt.

yeah made the mistake of using old archery techniques and got mauled by a badger.... and wasted a bunch of errors on running foxes...

It's still possible to use archery, but implementing the "hitting animal with ranged attack lowers the quality of the animal towards the ammunition quality" makes it entirely pointless because nothing similar exists for melee.

Uppercut + Sideswipe is probably the best pre-Cleave hunting combo.

Thanks for all the responses. So do you still need to beat up stuff to get more moves?

I forgot about the UC+sideswipe combo. When I did hunting nearer the world start I literally never got the cards for those. It made QB+cleave spam more accessible for me, and there was the added benefit of instakills that were slightly easier to achieve than with sideswipe.

Either way, good suggestion to someone who gets the cards for it. Certainly keeps UA as a viable hunting spec.
