Foraging quality question
Hey! I recently started playing again after 5yrs or so (always been a noob), and I just got my Survival skill up to 15.

I've noticed not all things I forage have a quality of 15, mostly differing between 10-15. If I had 25 Survival, would I find stuff between 20-25, etc? In case there's some kind of specific scaling level behind it, would it be worth for me to start taking up into combat skills, as I'd like to defend myself and start taming me some sheep?
..and take revenge on some c*nty bats

Other than that, really love seeing all the new stuff that's been added over the years, both game and community wise! Didn't think I'd get this hooked on playing again from getting the thought "man, wish I could put up a weed field in some game.."

Cheers lads :D

Right, so previous to my former thread, I've leveled up a bit more, found metal & made a bronze sword to hunt with on my horse, etc. So far I've been able to kill ants, bats, foxes, badgers, wolverines, beavers, aurochs, mouflons, boars, deer and a moose by kiting on my horse, so since I'm able to kill a moose; would I be able to take on a bear now? I took virtually no damage from the moose by kiting and healing properly, so I'm mostly wondering if bears hit that much harder and need metal armor or so to box with.

My current stats are:
Strength: 14(30)
Agility: 27(24)
Cons: 14
UA: 26
MC: 10

Currently I've got full leather armor, torso being q24 6/8 armor class, legs q24 5/6, boots q28 2/5, wooden shield q8 3/1 and a q16 bronze sword.

I tried taking on another horse for taming, but since I couldn't kite it properly I got knocked out, destroying all of my armor in the process.. same happened with a lynx, except my horse fought for my life valiantly after I got knocked out, and managed to finish it off while I was out cold. I love you, Jim. So yeah, bear next or wait 'till I get better stats/armor?

Survival acts as a hardcap for foraged goods. whatever your survival is, that is the maximum quality you can find. you've probably found lots of Q20,30,40 foragables, but you dont have the prerequisite skill to achieve the highest quality possible.

most every quality in the game works on a "node" system. you can think of nodes as pockets on the map of higher quality goods. each item, animal, and resource, with the exception of trees (which are all Q10 naturally) have nodes. for this reason it's important to emphasize your 'discovery' skills such as survival, masonry, and exploration early in order to find the best quality nodes.

Here's a quick guide on basically all the HUD and UI features in the game. hopefully from here you can start finding more information you need:

at the bottom is a more in depth explanation of soft and hardcaps.

EDIT: edited thread to ask new question

EDITEDIT: So, I tried my luck with a bear after getting some new armor. Successfully killed it taking only 2SHP dmg, so that made me very happy. Not sure if they nerfed the whole combat system or whatnot, thought it took like 200+ stats to deal with a bear.. I managed to with 26 str, 49agi, 14cons, 30UA and 18MC. Milestones!

Hahah, really? The hide quality etc was only q35, so I guess it wasn't the toughest bear I encountered.. The bear hugs did take me to like 87% on all 3 colors though, but I could just kite it around in a circle while using Dash to get rid of an entire color. If it only hits me once and I turn around fast enough everytime I go for a hit, it doesn't seem like my HP nor my armor gets damaged no matter how hard that first hit is, so I dunno. Mechanix?

either way, good findings.
maybe you should be the combat tester for new mechanics.

Some details on the 'new armor' would be helpful, with your stats you should have taken a bit more damage (unless you cheeses it with a boat or other shenanigans).

Bears can aggro your horse and if they hit it a couple of times it'll flee, leaving you behind.

Hope this screenshot gives you an idea of my items, I have +5agi gilding on both my cape and boots. I'd do a video of how I fight a bear, but seeing the comments here I'm starting to think I got extremely lucky.. I'm in no way able to facetank it like blank is doing. I'll be getting a bear coat after I dry the skin, as well. Was lucky enough to get 4 teeth on one bear :D
