Logging in on my Hearthfire?

Postby sMartins » Fri Jan 12, 2018 1:07 pm

So, yesterday while I was playing my ISP went down, yeah cause it sucks .... the thing is I was sailing with my boat in open water.
Now if I log in, and someone stole my boat I have to swim, right? or the option to log in on my hearthfire will be available cause being in water?
Tbh I don't remember if water is consider or not a place where you can't log in .... also iirc there should be an option to manually choose to log in on my HF? Am I wrong?
Let me know, thx.

P.S. I opened a new thread cause after a quick research I was not able to find this topic.

Luckily my boat was still there, I know you feel bad for that :D ... btw what would happened if my boat was stolen? Log in on HF option? or just drown?

Good, fast response on this. This has always been the case because it's not really fair for the player that got booted to log in and drown.

Small details like this are good to have on the wiki, but where to put them?

New section, log in/log out ... or something similiar, one of these days I should look into the wiki about how it works, etc ... so I can add stuff me too.
P.S. Still a bit angry with you btw, so watch out :D

Very unique info, I don't know if it deserves it's own page on the wiki. I'd say it belongs in the glossary? That's become my catch-all for information that doesn't merit it's own page.

Maybe make a new section on the hearthfire page

Could be added to the boat page, as the problem (drowning) is mainly related to them.

It's more a "not a valid place to log in" and while this pertains to the boat, it's just one instance of several possible conditions that will trigger this. Maybe should be a page about error messages and states?

edit: actually, I like this idea. Could be linked on the home page and the Glossary. I'm just doing a rough outline for now. We can fill in more as we get things together. As a thought on it, would it be possible to put error messages associated with certain specific things (such as claims) and be able to pull them to this page so information only needs to be updated in one place? Or think it would just be better that the one page holds everything and can hotlink to other pages for specifics?

I'm willing to bet there's a way to do what you described, but my wiki-fu is still very mediocre. You could make a template which holds basic error information and simply paste the template name into relevant pages with a link to the real error page.

For instance
{{Error}} template could say:
"X page has been known to cause errors under certain conditions. For a full list of errors, visit this page"
