Well, it is found on beaches, the wiki says with 250 Perception * Exploration.
So, it's just a matter of keep checking and raising perc*exp. :)

I found, today, atleast 20. about 6 on my fighter who has 10 exploration, and a bit (30+ -) perception, and the others were on my forager who's built for finding things like that. You can do it! Atleast you don't have to find 6 giant puffballs... It took me 2 months of walking around the mountains.

Get a boat, go rowing down the rivers and lakes. If you meet the reqs to find it, you will definitely find them in short order.

Do you need it for a credo quest by any chance? If so, then that is why you can't find any ... guaranteed, as soon as you abandon it out of frustration you will see tons of them. :)

Just keep searching, give it a few days, my reply was somewhat tongue in cheek, but it does seem to happen that when you are looking for something in particular you can't find it ... rl does the same thing, I needed a particular item in white not long ago and despite scouring the shops in 3 towns could find it in every colour under the sun, except white ... lol.
