how do iplay this game?

Postby DumbDakotaCodeRed » Sat Oct 13, 2018 9:31 am

my friend lime bime had me install this last night.

its old and cool and I assume its what runescape is like but this is also kinda DayZ Minecraft Diablo Baldur's Gate kind of thing. "put paladins in there:champions of the realm"

I did the first two sets of quests and I joined a party with Lime but we have am few questions.

Is there a way to rest to regain energy? we know you need max energy to get health from food.
how do we find each other?
I got stuck in a boat and had to log off, how do I leave the boats? also where do I get keys to drive the boats?
is there a way to make it when i hover over things the cursor changes so it is more clear what is going on?

thank you in advance, keep on eharthing!

Totally different than the RPGs you are mentioning mate.
Take a look at the wiki and the guides to get a clue ( wiki first page has links to some guides )
http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Haven_and_Hearth_Wiki

To find each other follow the little arrow at the edge of your screen while being in a party.
Energy you regain by eating stuff :) , Ctrl + left clic to leave boat or dismount horse.

To find each other is better you guys keep just one player and make new chars for the others, then build a wilderness beacon to make them spawn to you.
Use the wiki: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Wilderness_Beacon
This cause the world map is big, that means you may follow the arrow forever walking 5-10 hours or more if you are unlucky and spawn very far from each other.

FOR DEVS:
Great new player suggestions here:

-Add Optional (secondary) tutorial quest "Invite a friend" and "Build wilderness beacon"
-Add boat controls (ctrl to exit) in the tooltip
-Add a turn on/off button for tooltips that cycle: normal / show it immediately on hovering / and turn off showing qualities on items (that one we alredy have)

Thx DumbDakotaCodeRed, have fun in the game.
Make friends with the other crabs or try to escape the bucket.

Welcome folks! This game is wicked fun and exciting but the learning curve is a bit steep to get into. Take it slow and read up on the beacon to meet with your friends and try and get palisades up as quickly as you can. You can PM I'm down to help or check out the discords plenty of help to get you going.

There are some helpful links stickied at the top of this section of the forums. You might want to take a look at a couple of those. Make sure to check out the controls, as it'll be an important page to remember. The other important wiki pages will be good as you learn the game and need to filter through things. I still recommend Sevenless's beginner's guide, but it is quite dated at this point, so it may be more of a hindrance than a help.

There is realm chat if you happen to spawn in such an area, and there is at least one public Discord group. There is also an IRC channel, but it's not heavily populated anymore. Ask questions there, but like most games, just watch out for the funny guys. Many people are willing to help out the new players because it can be easy to get lost in what to do.

And welcome to Haven. It's a complex game, but can be very immersive. There's a lot of great moments with the community if you stick around.

Tooltips are unfortunately limited to the menus. I like the idea though.

Sevenless' guide is still reasonably relevant it just doesn't take into account many new changes like gilding.

Generally to get the keys to somebody elses boat you will need to find and kill them.

Energy is restored by food which also increases your attributes. Health is more complicated. There's a health and wounds tab in the character window. You need to have a green energy bar to regenerate soft health and you should treat your wounds to restore hard health.
Laying flat.

There are some lets plays of haven out there that actually aren't that bad. They cover the basics pretty well.

It only bears aesthetic similarity to runescape, gameplaywise it's like a (very) long-term Don't Starve

except I don't think I've ever died from starvation (well... maybe intentionally starved a character or two).
