How do you defend yourself in an encounter?

Postby Scarikas » Tue Apr 06, 2021 3:33 am

I have, for the first time, had an issue with thieves. The particular one I'm dealing with right now waits until I'm logged out to loot my base, every night.

I had the thought of waiting at my base and watching to make sure no one stole. But then I thought--even if I caught them in the act, what could I do without rage? I have no way to stop them from stealing, even when I'm there, as long as they have Theft and I don't.

Aside from physically forcing someone back with structures like palisades and fences, how are you supposed to defend yourself without making yourself a criminal when something like this happens? Can I theoretically only do nothing but watch as they waltz in and take everything?

You could...learn Rage? Your enemy spent 50k LP (30k + 20k for Trespassing) to steal your stuff, so 30k LP to be able to get revenge is not unreasonable.

But likely the better option is to move. If you've got trouble with people near you, the best way to avoid that is to not be near them anymore.

you have castle doctrine on your property, so you can defend yourself. I cant recall now if you need the skills or not to do this tho.

Only if they have the Visitor debuff, right? If stuff is getting stolen the perpetrator won't have Visitor. EDIT: This is wrong, I was thinking about Evicting which requires Visitor.

Which reminds me: OP, if you haven't already, surround your claim with a fence with all gates locked. The perpetrator will need to commit Vandalism to steal stuff, which is an extra hurdle which discourages most people (though chances are it won't in this case).

Thing is I'd rather not be a criminal.

IIRC people who have Vandalism permissions to your claim can aggro people on it too.

Not sure if people run combat stats on their Theft alts for cases like this.

Right, I was thinking about Evict which does require Visitor.

do you live with a guy called suprada by any chance?

you can aggro them on your claim if youre confident u can win, or you can try to rush to palisade, or you can (and should) just move location, you can also contact ppl to help you defend, you can also build twig wall to block the entrance when y log off forcing them to require vandalism
