This has not nor ever will be a legitimate excuse. Developers need to respect the time, money, support and enthusiasm that people bring to their games and provide said players with tools to protect themselves from griefers who have nothing better to do in life than to make someone they don't know miserable.
You do remember which game you're playing, right? Without that claim, you own nothing. With the claim, you own anything on it. Anyone messing with it that doesn't have permission leaves scents. Some scents, such as vandalism and theft, can be used to summon kill the perpetrator. There are mechanics in place for managing this. If a player decides to not use such mechanics and strike out blindly, they get what the community is allowed to do--griefed.
Now, would it have been nice for the devs to say "hey, we changed the house anti-griefing system from a 3-day drying time to a build-up of soak over the same period."
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
