Fascinating. So we're going forward with some unhealable damage types? And will this be applied to hunting as well?

I agree with pvp, but hunting perma damage seems a little overkill.

I hope that you consider only things like limbs chopped off by swords, not damage from animals.

I have an unhealable bruise. I should probably go see a doctor...

Jorb/Loftar, it might be worthwhile to meanwhile add 'bruises' and other mundane unhealable damages that are totally healable on their own in real life under the stinging poultice, or even make them heal with time. Atleast until you have a solution?

You know, there'd be no shame in retiring a favored fighter to a life of crafting. Many old warriors became smiths or farriers, even farmers, after the war was over or they lost a leg or arm to injury leaving them unable to fight on the front lines.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Except that, in this case, its just bruises and cuts, unhealable. Or, in my case, 58 chicken scratches. Or ant bites.

That shit will probably take a week of constantly being online to heal.(Which i cant even do because of the time limit)
The current HHP damage system is just retarded and maybe, until they actually add in ways to fucking heal the damage, shouldnt be ingame yet. I'm at 3 HHP and i cant do anything, animals that aggro you everywhere. I've been standing in my home for a few hours now and got a whole 2 HHP back, with 5000% energy.
Why add in unhealable wounds when there's no way to heal them? There should be a quick fix for this, or take out the unhealable wounds out, temporarily. Because all this is doing is hinder players.

tl;dr - I shouldn't have to stand around for HOURS just because of some scratches, unhealable wounds shouldnt be ingame until you actually implement a way to heal them.

Arguably wounds should heal while you are offline.

Does that mean that a bleeding wound also kill you while you are offline?

Such are the questions we grapple with.

I want the game to be harsher than it used to be. It never sat well with me that you could just slap on a leech and call it a day. I want death and survival to be a thing.

Nicks and knacks shouldnt be life threatening wounds. I'm a Mason, i work on construction sites and by the time i get home, I'm covered in "Nicks and Knacks". They itch a little, sure, but the next morning theyre mostly gone and/or have scab. The other wounds don't bother me nearly as much as over 50 little scratches that heal one by one. At least the other wounds are seperate(5x3-10damage cuts, for example), but the scratches are just a biiiiiiiiiiiiig pile that slowly, SLOWLY heals away. One by one.

I agree that the simple wounds should split off into more serious wounds if they represent too much total damage.

The circumstances of the game are what they are. If you can't handle permanent damage due to lag spikes then this might not be the game for you, as -- quite irrespective of what we do with wounds -- you will under any and all circumstances run the risk of losing your char entirely due to lag spikes.

Unavoidable consequence of what we are trying to build here, unfortunately.

The fundamental case for permanent damage rests in the fact that I think that all characters should be possible to "grind down" over time in PvP.

I like the idea of getting permnently wounded in battles. But i hope permanent injuries dont happen in very early game..

Does that mean my character will be permanently gimped because I got knocked out by ants while I was lagging? Surely there should be a way to bandage or heal my blunt trauma, etc. over time.
