Ahg, I think my old salem guide explained it. Been a bazillion years since I played that game though. Time to go google myself.

Edit: Nope not in my old salem guide. Certain fish responded better to a particular pattern of pulls. You'd need to deduce what fish you were reeling in by figuring out what it was responding to. Once you knew the species, you could reel it in pretty reliably knowing which options were best. It took a fair bit of practice back then, and who knows what they did with the system.

Hah this is why I never fished with a pole in Salem, its some shitty points system where you have to use certain moves on certain fish to catch it in no specific order, some fish might have a chance to capture on pull high whereas other fish you have a chance to lose it while doing the same action, its dumb because you have several types of fish in a fishing spot and you can never be sure what fish you actually have, in Salem you could just build a fish trap and bait that to catch fish

Hopefully those are coming, too.

While I liked the minigame at first, it just got tedious. I found you could sometimes force the fish you wanted, other times you just had to accept the RNG.

I fished a lot in Haven because I had a grasp of the system, though nobody gave a crap because fish dishes were mediocre or variety food. I knew the system (the wiki was mostly accurate), and enjoyed the timing and variance of it. Having to set my alarm of 5am to catch eels was a huge pain in the ass, though, and is one of things I hated about it (along with the steel production... if I have to set alarms to play a game, I quickly quit. I spent nearly a year doing that playing Travian. Not worth it, ever.)

I do hope the steel crucible system is different here. But yeah, the fish from that minigame better be amazing or there's no way it'll compete with other food options. That game was a pain.

I am not so sure about this mini-game, I really liked the moon phase thing much more. We have a day/night cycle now though so perhaps they've incorporated that as well? I don't know.

It isn't, except that the time it takes to burn iron to wrought or to burn wrought to steel seems shortened significantly which is great.

The fishing minigame with the casting rod somehow takes even longer than just using a pole and bait. This is a seriously irritating mechanic.

Feel free not to use it.

Could we have UI key over-rides for it or something at least?

I wouldn't mind playing with it but I can't take the rapid fire clicking.
