how does fishing even work. Can I catch fish near they are jumping out of water or do I need to fish directly above from where they are jumping?

Jumping fish out of water is a fishing spot with some radius.You can catch fish at this spot.

Deep lake (from a boat), Day, Grub, Heath/Rusty Forrest: Pike (x3), Grayling (x2), Ruffe (x2), Roach (x2), Plaice (x1).

Is there any way (stats or abilities) to increase the chance of getting fish or the time it takes for each 'cycle' to complete? Because right now fishing is freaking annoying. I've been fishing for like 50 minutes and only got 2 fish. :(

I find that fishing is somewhat easier with higher levels of survival. Could've been the q10 rod I was using instead of q1-5, though.

Weird.
I already use a q12 rod but I'll try increasing my survival even more... might be the bait too, what do you use? I usually go for entrails or worms

jorb has said that fishing with the basic pole you can initially build is going to be slow. There is another rod later that will (should?) be faster.

Just caught a catfish, 3 tiles fish which gives most psyche, kinda ate it before I got the full stats but it was 2.5 psyche and 1.25 something else I think.
