I have two friends who are going to quit as well, that will bring my little group from 20 to about 6-8.

"Can't they add something fucking useful to the game?"
"Enough shit can perma you already"

and they are gone.

Considering I have lost 75% of my group, I would say it is a good factor for what other groups have gone through. And the current HUGE population loss.
Why you would fuck over hermits/newer players starting out in caves, is beyond me.

OH DID I MENTION WE LIVE IN DARK PINE FOREST AND THEY SPAWN ALL OVER OUTSIDE

The one good thing about bats is that they at least don't wander. If you walk into their attack range, you're pretty dead. But once we all get the hang of staying the heck away there's no chance they'll fly into us accidentally.

My solution to the bat problem is not to log in until they have fixed it .... ..... I'm pretty certain they will be doing something about it, it's going to be a bit hard for anyone to play once they have to have a new spawn ... :?

Only people who are forced to do nothing are essentially miners right now. Even in dark forest, they're uncommon enough that it's not a huge deal for most villages. Larger ones wouldn't be able to clear an area to let them despawn I guess.

Overall, it is too brutal. But it's a livable kind of brutal in the meantime if you're cautious.

Honestly, even with bats this insane ants bother me more. Specifically because they are definitely the gateway to learning the very required combat system. But even if you win a fight, or draw I suppose, you take permanent HHP damage... Respecting animals is fine but there needs to be a way to get into the game learning wise.

Edit: and by win (kill) draw (not get koed) I'm looking at it from a beginner perspective. They will make mistakes, and permanent wounds is pretty discouraging from learning further.

Everyone's being dramatic. You can crawl past them most of the time, and if they attack I heard a rumor you can actually lift them up and carry it around :P They only KO you and aren't fatal, but if more than one attack you, the second one will still have an attack queued and hit you for HHP after you KO. So do NOT approach multiple bats.

Pretty sure no mob in the game does more than 1 hhp hit per ko. Bears just hit super hard.

@ Sevenless - Yeah, I agree, I have a problem with the ants as well.

Even so, for a new player the bats seem a far bigger issue as they are atm, if you read all the threads regarding them it doesn't paint a very promising picture for a newbie and people are saying they have been killed by them, so ... idk, do they kill you?

Anyway severe damage for a newb with all the other dangers they encounter will probably still result in a premature death and the bats don't appear to be easy to escape.

Yeah, I know. Arguably we should move away from this and have them actually consider whether they want to be lethal or not. Right now this is mostly a consequence of them having an attack queued when they reach the player.

I do agree though that the bats need to be nerfed, their current form is too OP and unfair on those unexpecting of the danger. I just find it bizarre that so many are actually dying from them... what are they doing? Wandering through deep caves? I learnt right away not to mess with them too much. I guess those who already had low HHP didn't stand a chance unfortunately.

Bats are less dangerous than bears, but the thing that's killing people is expectation. Ants and Bats are usually starter mobs in games so people are a little more adventurous when encountering them. If you aggro a bear you can in theory escape it via cliff. However, if you aggro a bat and there's no cave/house near you *are* going down.

The only issue op bats are causing permanent problems in, as opposed to revised expectations solving it, is mining. Miners get bat blocked so often that it's probably incredibly frustrating to try to do their job. Bat in the way, can I kill it nope. So they wait for despawn, then reroll hoping no bats.

That's not a fun mechanic.
