At this point, marijuana is suspected to suppress cancer, but not enough studies have been done because it's been illegal to research* it. Compare to tobacco, which has been studied by at least one medical group or another since... the 1940s? earlier?

*Most research needs to meet federal approval for funding blah blah in the US, and pretty much the same in other rich countries with criminal laws against it. Not sure what's been done in the last decade in Netherlands, and not sure what legalization in Colorado and Washington will do to change this. At least there's enough to show the positive benefits it has for those that are sick, and is less dangerous than even alcohol.
