Yeah, the same with laurel tree. As you go further south from noobgrid, you will find tons of tea bush (that nobody bothers to pickup anymore) and laurel tree.

Get a horse and start going south. Tea bush still spawns in random biome up north (found one in orange forest biome, one in dark green plains biome), but they are a pain to find. I found more iron boulders then I found tea bush.

Does anyone know how to plant more tea bushes? I have one but it does not give an type of seed to plant. I tried planting the leaf even though I knew it would not work because i wanted more tea bushes so bad.

They do produce seeds, some dastardly scavenger probably swiped them before you found it. If it gets a decay hit it'll grow both of them back (along with all of it's leaves)

I've only ever found them in the dark brown forests (no clue what it is called)
