I find it totally annoying that they run away at sprint speed.
Because this means that i only can kill them on grassland or similar terrains that allow sprinting...

Should be addressed.

doesn't need changing actually, you just need a sword or a low blow.

w/o sword use bow for meat, or skip meat to learn moves ;)

Don't try to kill badgers with 20 UA, untouched leather armor, 27 strength and 21 agility. Trust me, those things are WAY OP.
