1135 basalt
575 black ore
290 horned silver
all this work for nothing, damn tower turned up all basalt, I'm sure it would have been cool now i got this ugly grey thing.
It really is for nothing, this was supposed to be part of a mostly decorative scene, i teraformed a pretty high up hill\pyramid with a climbing road around it, it's very big, road is all black ore, rest of it was going to be other stuff and some puplar tress, as not much leaves, was working on some sort of creepy halloween thing, now it's ruined.

Basalt is black. Even if you put more than needed of it (1151 would be enough for 575 black ore) or put less black ore (even 566 won't be enough) - you'll get absolute basalt tower. And it should be black, not grey.

That is what's weird about it, it is lighter than basalt, not that dark charcoal, I know because I have another tower that i built, in sight with primary as basalt and this new one is lighter, it's darkish grey, as for my numbers they were exact, so something is wrong, either black ore is ok for paving but messes up other things, or it's the horned silver.

Light may play a role when looking at the materials, at times.

Screens? Preferably of both towers.

It may be the solution if you don't take into account he also have another basalt tower with darker color.

Anyways, whether it is really lighter or it is not , is not the point, i was very precise in my count, only worked one material at a time, I would have noticed if i had stones left over or if missing some :)
The way i did it is , first the 3 types of stone\ore came from 3 different levels of my mine, i did the basalt first, i knew i needed 16 stacks and 15 stones to get 1135 basalt, so i mined it all, carried it up and built it into the tower,
did the same for the secondary stone which was 575 black ore, i needed 8 stacks and 15 stones, mined them, took them up and built them into tower, last was horned silver, needed 4 stacks and 10 stones, i did same with those and brought up the exact amount i needed. By the end of the third stone, if i had brought up 1 extra or one less stack i would have noticed i think :)
But i finished without any left over or stone missing. So I'm certain it is not an error of mine. Something is wrong with the combination of stones i used. And it ruined something i had been working on for a while.

One small guess, any chance some cat's gold could mess your math? and screens can be useful - I never was a fan of this, but, you know "screens or didn't happen"... I mean if your tower is made of granite - you just wasting or time and really did something wrong. So some screens just can exclude these thoughts. ;)

No i was extra carefull not to have cat gold in there and it would have taken more than one. As for a screen, all it'll show is a tower that looks to be entirely made of basalt, last night it may have been a different lighting and my other tower is basalt primary with lighter stones for 2nd and third, creating a bit of an optic illusion, making the basalt look darker, this morning they look pretty much the same. Anyways I don't have anywhere to upload a screenshot and I'm too pissed off to bother with it :)

On second thought, cat's gold version won't fit your case - it won't stuck with black ore, so can't reduce its amount as well. Basically, because of stone won't stack into ore stockpile, and you have made exactly secondary stone from ore - there is no chance that described actions can lead you to the described result. Dunno what to say.
The only guess - devs add a tons of magic recently, and maybe basalt-black ore-hornsilver tower was too ugly to build, so some kind of higher powers changed the rules of universe a bit to help you.

It is why i think that there might have been a bug specific either to how tower is coded or to the specific mix of stone and ore i used.
My fun in this game is building things, i'm very precise and methodic about how i do things. To date the only real error i made while building something is, 3 days ago I built a knarr
and I totally forgot to add my graphic for the sail before i completed it, so I ended up with a boring yellow sail, but it's ok I guess, still a knarr is very practical.
But this project I was on with this tower was purely aesthetic , was working on a spooky display for haloween :)

Well, fully black tower may still fit your place, and you can rebuild it quite fast. Those I doubt the hornsilver will please you with its look. Maybe you should use some bloodstone?
You can use this to pre-view your tower/stone mansion. Its not 100% precious but quite close to ingame so you can see - the difference between basalt and black ore is not so high. And though this tool is missing hornsilver, I assume you can use flint instead (most closer look) and see - it won't fit too much for "helloween style"

Well first of all, if basalt was actually black, yes maybe it be ok, but basalt is not black, it is charcoal and rather dull, it looks much darker as paving.
I was going to use basalt, bloodstone and iron ocre for the mountain itself to give it a stone look with cracks through which you see lava or something like that with a tiny cemetery next to tower
and plant some poplars on the hill sides here and there as they are the closest u can get to dead trees as they have much less foliage as all the other trees.
Now I have to rethink all that i guess. It is for sure not a practical place to use, there's no surface on top, pretty much all taken by tower and almost no flat surface anywhere except for where the road turns at corners where i have small 4 x 4 flat spaces. It is huge, has a 30 x 30 base , it is 7 tiles high with each tile fully maxed in elevation, the pyramid\mound is about as high as the height of the tower, it took a huge amount of dirt hehe.
