Its when the animal is targetting another player. If i go in to boat punch it when it twitches to face another aggroed player i will hit it without any retaliation. Also if another player goes in and takes the hit then the cooldown will be in effect allowing you again to hit it without retalition.

I've also noticed that some attacks have a further distance, one attack in particular if i pull away in the boat quick enough i can hit it without getting hit at all.

Boars now have a ranged attack called Roar i think and that lows your yellow defence bar so be careful of that one.

Would also like to know. Saw two guys (or maybe a guy and an alt) hunting by wedging a boar inbetween their boats on a river, but i'd like to know if it's possible to do it solo/how they did it without the boar aggroing on them.
