You can still map their coordinates can't you? I'd be interested in a map of that. And I don't think there's been enough time to claim with such certainty that mapping out the destinations is useless, it could be they just have several cycles that might eventually return the original pattern.

I believe jorb said in a stream they are random. Random as in the destinations are left up to the RNG.

We had that happen to two of our village members twice now. So it may be bit randomized and we got unlucky but we can confirm form our end that the number of the people in the boat matter unless two unlucky damage ticks happened twice.

Same boat has never broken for my village either.
