find pit clay or cave clay.
burn bones in a kiln. use charred bon X3 and a feldspar and a fine clay(cave or pit clay) and voila bone clay

The one problem with cave clay is it's semi-rare like pit clay. You don't have to wait for days for it to respawn, though. You can use the spawning mechanics to your advantage and hit an area every 20-30 minutes with a forager to see if any spawned there. Unless you have a large village with a mining operation, odds are a few people aren't going to be able to spread out enough to find what you need for kilns, ovens, etc.

Over all of w9 with 100exp and 150perc I have only ever found one cave clay, they are super rare.

Hence my thing on clay. Should I just break down and keep hunting for that q80-90 spot or should I say screw it and go with the 4/5 on my list.

Keep hunting. You might get lucky. Just try to find those q40+ spots along the way, and mark better, convenient places as you find them.
