you have to check the peace or not swords symbol at the start of a fight. once you break the threshold, it's too late

i have never ever even once failed to tame an animal.
just dont be a bitch and straight beat the animals face in with a sword till at about 200 damage. then hit the face with your fist till it surrenders.
make sure you made the peace symbol at start of combat and no cheesing or you can, and apperantly, will kill your animal time and again.

short story long, dont be a cheesing pussy and fight fair.
