Thanks lads I'll check out using two shields. I have the knuckle duster on my lad (forgot I had it there).

This thread was mainly about which Skills to use against which animals though. What's good against the almighty boar? And cows for example, I wanna start taming those too

Cows are way stronger than boars. You'll need cheese, a sword, or very high stats to tame them.

I think the table assumes a sword.

Has anyone tried out the Boar Spear? Seems like it would be a nice improvement over UA

Unfortunately they have too low of a base damage, like the stone axe.

As for skills specifically, Punch Spam + Watch its Moves + Chop with a bronze sword should be enough at your stats. I'll go test it today and see since I'm actually a bit below your stats.

from my experience is not so much about skills, but armor and agility... restorations feels useless unless you can stay away from the animal... the time you waste restoring, the animal is usually destoying you

so I just grind armor and agility, then Punch Punch Punch to raise opening, take aim, chop, take aim, chop... of course some animals are annoying to the point you can only cheese them with pali or boat... deer, bear, lynx... my agility is too low to face those fuckers... they get openings too high and too fast...

I tend to use Combat Meditation because reduces cooldown, and helps with the idea of doing the damage the fastest way possible... lately I'm trying Bloodlust but I'm still not convinced whats best for my situation...

I'm using the list at

but boars are haning my ass to me. My skills are well over the limit and I've got full leather armour So I must be doing something wrong.

At the mo I've been raising the green opening and then chopping with my trusty axe. What else should I be doing?

Any advice would be great

Trolls can't be soloed from what i think from beyond lvl 3 , but above soloing is possibile with at least 300 stats , but best way to do it is bring your friends , fight it and when someobody gets too hurt and is afraid of being KO'ed he just runs a bit through like gap or smth cause troll will change agro.
that way you can take a Troll down through teamwork , they aren't that unfair in fights as people say :D

So at 34 agi 47 UA 10 melee. I can punch, IP gen (watch it's moves is all I have), and 2-3 chops with a Q40 bronze sword and kill a boar. It's not pretty, I lost 40hp on my crappy armor, but the boar died and I got away with only minimal HHP damage. Wolverine seemed about as tough to me. Badgers and foxes are easy and don't damage my armor. There's no way I could have punch spammed the boar at this level, my agi just isn't high enough. The DPS off swords is definitely higher. Also had knuckles equipped. Dual shields wouldn't have given me enough armor to really make a difference.

UA spam is definitely simpler, but I wouldn't call it better if we're defining quality as "the fastest you can kill a critter 1v1 without cheese".

Edit: Using horse to regen yellow defense, boar can be taken down without armor damage when using a basic Q20 leather chest/pants + badger vest.

Kind of a similar but off topic question I've always had... Is there a way to prevent the little HHP damage from building up while fighting stuff? Like if I got around killing 3-4 boars I come out of it with like 10-20 knicks and knacks and 15-20 scratches. Also I'll sometimes build up like 4 or 5 deep cups of 1-5 damage each. Is there something i'm missing that would prevent me from getting these other than killing the animal faster?
