Yarrow would be the best solution. Can't figure out why the Devs have yet to implement this. Now, more-so then ever because of the infected wounds. It's they want to kill off players who can't get chamomile...

This whole infection mechanic only really hurts low level players currently. 100% avoidable for endgame players. I made a suggestion at some point about low level cures + adding infection chance on treated wounds to level it out as a gameplay mechanic.

Yea that's what I was referring by "players who can't get chamomile" .

On the subject of crabs being useless, chitin hooks are meaningully useful for lure fishing.

lures? You can make lures? I can't make lures, what do you mean by this?
Also, the crab claws are gonna be (generally) lower than a fox bone's quality- but if you can share to me the magical secret of how to make a lure I can look into it.
The sum of my experience is comprised up of more skeletons on my own claim then alot of you guys have wood blocks invested in your wall. But even though these skeles show i am a bad player- i still strive to continue through this vile territory in the hopes that one day i will have an army big enough to find you and murder all you know

Need to make an advanced fishing rod using cloth to unlock lures.

As far as I can tell, lure fishing is pretty useless. You lose lures almost as fast as bait, and entrails are already pumped out as a biproduct.

Yarrow is pretty common, so yarrow treatment for Crab Caressed would make crabs trivially low cost, roughly comparable to Rabbits. I think this is probably fine, but since it's currently untreatable and comes with a stiff dex penalty that stacks per wound, and how slowly it heals, I'd expect they want something more. Perhaps one of the early manufactured options like Mud Ointment or Stinging Poultice... leeches have their own downsides.

Lure fishing is far, far from useless. Being able to find high q high % nodes of specific useful fish is pretty huge when you're not established enough to pump out cheese, sausages, etc for your whole village.

Since the infected wounds patch I tried running crabs over with horses, but they don't leave corpses or items. Oversight maybe?

it must be because they don't have a death type yet, since when you crack them from the inventory they also hurt you

It's kind of weird, everything about crabs is for early game, but they give wounds that are on par with late game combat and need gloves and gauntlets to avoid.
