Of course, but when it comes to hunting, adding more armor on top of what you already have doesn't really matter if you have a good set of leather armor (let alone better armors which anyone can easily buy in the market)

The second shield can be replaced with a stone axe or a sword (easily bought) for dealing damage to the animal.

Early early game armor is hard to come by. Dual shields gives you a bit of armor for UAing foxes/bats without as much pain as leather armor.

Its window of usefulness is tiny though, and only if you're unable to trade. Meh to the concept imo.

As soon as you get something like sideswipe from a bat, it's fucking stupid not to use a melee weapon to deal damage. Leather armor is also super easy to make.
